Veterans

Veterans and their spouses who are residents of Helsinki receive a burial plot for a coffin or urn for 25 years at no charge. If a veteran or his spouse is buried in a grave that already is in the possession of the family, it is possible to obtain a free extension to the exclusive right of burial. A fee is charged for opening and filling in the grave and for its basic maintenance.

The Hietaniemi cemetery has an area for front-line veterans and their spouses. All of the plots there are for urns. Reserving a burial plot or extending the exclusive burial right is also free for people who served in minesweeping duties after the war and their spouses.
